For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. (Proverbs 2:6)
As children of God, we are judged for "every idle word" that proceeds from our mouth.
"But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment." (Matthew 12:36)
"But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man." (Matthew 15:18)
The tongue of the faithful is guarded. The unfaithful are condemned by their own lies (from the heart, through the mind, and out the mouth) - they, the lies, (their source evil) defile the man.
A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies. (Proverbs 14:5)
A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies. (Proverbs 14:25)
A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit. (Proverbs 15:4)
A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue. (Proverbs 17:4)
The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so. (Proverbs 15:4)
Words are powerful.
A ruler can be persuaded through patience, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.
(Proverbs 25:15)
A gentle answer turns away anger, but a harsh word stirs up wrath.
(Proverbs 15:1)
The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body.
It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one's life on fire,
and is itself set on fire by hell. (James 3:6)
